Now here's the thing, with the weather in early spring. You may get the sun, or you may be undone.
In fact early spring is a gift for wedding photographers, as it gives us a chance to practice working with the kind of weather a couple probably don't want for their summer wedding. And so it was with Katie and Anthony, who actually live in Paris, but are marrying in Bedforshire for the convenience of both their families and friends.
This lovely young couple took me round the church and the fields where their wedding is to take place...
...and while it was clear that by the summer it would be a sun-kissed, rural blessing of green, the late spring and the dull weather gave a slightly wintery atmosphere. In keeping with creativity we gave that a bit of a play.
Personally, I find the 'dead wood' atmosphere very romantic and atmospheric. But it's not usually what a couple want from a romantic shoot. And so in editing I balanced it out with some tricks of the trade, to give Katie and Anthony a mix of more warm and summery. Whoever said the camera never lies, had clearly never used Photoshop or Lightroom!
So that was what we did - mixing and matching both a darker, more moody, VSCO look, very in fashion but not necessarily the most romantic, uplifting or traditional, with some sunnier and brighter, airier edits.
